Scottish Regiments of the Seven Years War:

The following is an attempt to trace the whereabouts of each of the three Highland Regiments during the Seven Years War. Tracking individual highlanders in this war is not an easy task. Records are scarce, and those that were kept often contain little or no personal information. Various companies within a regiment are frequently stationed in different areas. Privates and commissioned officers alike were often transferred from one regiment to another. In any case I have outlined the movements of the 42nd, the 77th, and the 78th British Regiments using what reference material that was available to me. -Andrew
